Life's Development For God's Purpose 4/4, C C G 1. Day 1, You came to me, F C Brooding so tenderly. F C You spoke a word to me, Dm G And light did shine. F C My darkness You effaced, F C My emptiness replaced; F C The gospel's light erased Dm G C My hist'ry vain. 2. Day 2 did come and go, But one thing I did know: Things earthly lost their glow; They're dead to me. The atmosphere--expanse Lifted my circumstance, That life may thus advance For growth in me. 3. Day 3, the land so dry Emerged from watres high. Grass, herbs, and trees did rise; Your life had sprung. My death You now recede. As life do rise in me; Rise more 'til there's no sea Within my being. 4. Day 4, the sun did shine With wings of healing light. The moon was shining, too, The church, my home. The saints as stars with light Shine midst this dark'ning night, Setting my feet aright To walk Your way. 5. Day 5, the fish arrived Against the worldly tide. Death waters they survived, With life empow'red. From fish to bird I soar By waiting on You, Lord. Your grace to me affords Strength o'er all things. 6. Day 6, from air to ground, Cattle and beasts around, Then all creation crowned With man--like You. Through growth expressing Thee With Your authority, I'd reach maturity, Your purpose gained.
